On October 18th and 19th, 2024, the CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) conducted a two-day residential outreach program for Class 12 students from Birudhnagar, Tamil Nadu, as part of the CSIR-Jigyasa initiative. The program aimed to enrich students' understanding of earth sciences, highlighting the importance of natural resources like water, minerals, and hydrocarbons in creating a sustainable society and contributing to the vision of a "Viksit Bharat".
Dr. Prakash Kumar, Director of CSIR-NGRI, inaugurated the event with a lecture on "Mother Earth" and the significance of geophysical and geological investigations in exploring and conserving the Earth’s natural wealth. His address emphasized the critical role of earth sciences in ensuring sustainability and resource management for future generations.
The program was organized by a team of dedicated scientists, including Dr. Sandeep Gupta, Dr. T. Vijay Kumar, Dr. Tanvi Arora, Dr. Sateesh Chandrapuri, and Dr. Rajeev Yadav. Over the course of two days, the students engaged in interactive sessions and hands-on activities, gaining valuable insights into the Earth's resources and their sustainable use. Many scientists also delivered lectures in different field of the Earth sciences in the event.
The event concluded on a positive note, with students expressing appreciation for the knowledge and inspiration they gained. The program successfully equipped them with a deeper understanding of the Earth and its resources, shaping their aspirations toward future careers in science and sustainability.
