Chief Scientist , Geochronology
Petrology, Geochemistry, Isotope Geochemistry and Geodynamics
Dr. E.V.S.S.K. Babu received his Ph.D. from the Trinity College and the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Cambridge, England jointly supervised by Prof. T.J.B. Holland, FRS, and Prof. David M. Pyle.
Dr. Babu joined the EPMA Laboratory of the CSIR-NGRI in the year 2002 after holding positions as a Reader in Earth Sciences, SRT Marathwada University, Maharashtra, and a Scientific Officer-SD position at the Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research, Dept. of Atomic Energy, Government of India. He is currently Project Leader of the Geochronology & Isotope Studies at the CSIR-NGRI.
Dr. Babu’s research areas include thermodynamic modeling of silicates, silicate melts, understanding heterogeneities beneath the Indian subcontinental lithospheric mantle, kimberlite exploration etc. He has vast expertise in in-situ elemental and isotopic analysis using Electron Probe Micro Analyser (EPMA), Laser Ablation – Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICPMS) and Laser Ablation-Multi Collector ICPMS (LA-MC-ICPMS). Dr. Babu also teaches undergraduate, and postgraduate students as well as entry-level to mid-career level geoscientists in advanced fields of mineralogy, petrology and geochemistry at several academic and other R&D institutions.
