The study estimates seismic attenuation (Q) using ambient noise cross correlations in the Hellenic subduction zone (HSZ), a seismically active region with sparse station coverage. It introduces a new method to improve accuracy and identifies major tectonic zones with low Q, correlating with large topographical features.
Raypath (a-c) and fixed-grid map (d-f) of Qc (ambient noise coda attenuation) in the three period bands. The colorbars are log-scaled, however the tick values show absolute Qc at the tick position.
